Senior Core Banking Transformation Developer
We are seeking an experienced Core Banking Transformation Developer to support financial institutions across the GCC and MENA in modernising legacy systems. The role combines deep technical knowledge of COBOL-based environments with strong API and integration capabilities, guiding banks through complex migration journeys toward modern, scalable, API-driven architectures. You will work directly with client stakeholders at a senior level, advising on strategy, architecture, and execution of core system transformation programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical assessments of legacy core banking systems, particularly COBOL-based mainframe environments, identifying constraints, risks, and modernisation opportunities.
- Design and advise on migration strategies from legacy platforms to modern, API-enabled architectures, including phased, hybrid, and full-replacement approaches.
- Develop and implement integration layers using RESTful APIs, middleware, and microservices frameworks.
- Collaborate with client IT, operations, and business teams to define transformation roadmaps aligned with commercial objectives.
- Support data migration, system interoperability, and transition planning to minimise operational disruption.
- Provide hands-on development, troubleshooting, and optimisation of both legacy and modern systems where required.
- Evaluate and recommend third-party core banking platforms, API gateways, and fintech solutions.
- Contribute to thought leadership, client proposals, and strategic advisory engagements.
- Travel internationally to support client project delivery across the GCC, MENA, and Europe.
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience with COBOL and legacy core banking systems, including mainframe environments such as IBM z/OS.
- Proven track record delivering modernisation or migration projects within banking or financial services.
- Solid understanding of API design and development, including REST, JSON, and OpenAPI standards.
- Experience with integration technologies: middleware, ESBs, and microservices architectures.
- Knowledge of core banking functions across payments, lending, deposits, and customer data models.
- Strong ability to bridge legacy and modern technology stacks and communicate technical complexity clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in advisory, consulting, or client-facing roles is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerisation technologies.
- Experience with core banking platforms such as Temenos, Finacle, Flexcube, or equivalent.
- Exposure to event-driven architectures and real-time data processing.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in GCC and international banking environments.
- Background in payments systems or financial services transformation programmes.
Why Join MENA Advisory
- Work at the forefront of banking transformation across the Middle East and global markets.
- Engage with leading financial institutions on high-impact, strategic programmes.
- Opportunity to shape next-generation banking architecture and API ecosystems.
- Dynamic, advisory-led environment with strong growth potential and international exposure.
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
